Promoter of the Faith

Welcome to Promotor Fidei. This blog has the purpose of gathering all my writings and speculations on issues ranging from philosophy to science, as well as providing the basis for new speculations. Many of my writings are scattered around the Internet, in several languages and formats. The goal is to translate and standardize everything, creating a neat, publicly available and easy to consult index.

It shall also be a way to publish new speculations in English, as much as possible.

The title of this blog, Promotor Fidei, means “Promoter of Faith” and was the office held by a doctor in Canon Law, whose role was to present every possible argument against the beatification of a candidate. This office is also known informally as Advocatus Diaboli (The Devil’s Advocate). In common parlance, it means taking a position one does not necessarily agree with for the sake of the argument.

Ironically, I am not a Catholic. But I surely am an advocate of the devil. I take great pleasure in disassembling arguments into their constituent parts and probing them for soundness and validity, and submitting it to a barrage of possible criticisms, formal and informal.
